When I began writing my cookbook, I never realized how much work would go into taking the photographs for it. And as my book isn't a typical cookbook, as it is filled with kitchen design tips and other interior design topics, I needed lots of food photos and lots of house photos.
Fortunately, I know some terrific photographers. I called Israel Orange from Israel Orange Studios, who came to my rescue and took amazing photographs of kitchens and houses that I have designed, both new and old. We went into peoples' homes, cleaned and scrubbed and moved things off of counters, and then he took the pictures. The photographs turned out amazing!
And for the food, I called my friend Rochel Lazar or Reflections by Rochel, who had done some food photography in our local area. Then I would cook up a storm, sometimes for several days. All of the food in my cookbook was cooked by me and photographed in and around my house. Once the food was ready, I would gather up my dishes, and Rochel would come over for the photo shoots. Then together we would arrange the food and she would shoot their portraits.
Without Israel and Rochel, my cookbook wouldn't be what it is! I couldn't have created it without their immense help. Make sure to watch my upcoming YouTube videos for anecdotes and to learn more about what went into taking the photography for my cookbook.
