The holiday of Shavuot is almost here and with it comes a tradition that always feels a little refreshing. On Shavuot, we celebrate the receiving of the Torah and becoming a proper nation. What does that have to do with dairy foods? A tradition that goes back to Har Sinai, when the Jewish people received the Torah and began learning the laws of shechita (kosher slaughtering), meat was avoided until all of those laws were learned completely. Thus, the Jewish people ate dairy instead. And so, we continue that tradition to this day.
As most Jewish holidays involve lots of heavy meals featuring meat and chicken dishes, it is always fun to plan and enjoy a fancy yom tov meal that includes gooey cheese. And while the dessert course is possibly my favorite (think cheesecake!), there are so many good options for delicious foods to make. I have posted many easy and yummy recipes on this blog that would be perfect for your Shavuot meal. Here are some of my favorites:
Unstuffed Shells
Rum Cordial Cheesecake Brownies
Corn Tortilla Casserole
No-Boil Lasagna
Ricotta Gnocchi
